Empowering Asylum Seekers
Empowering Asylum Seekers
EUROPE | PROJECT GOAL: $77,000
The journey of asylum seekers is marked by uncertainty and hardship. At the Closed-Controlled Access Center on the Greek island of Lesvos, the challenges are immense—families are separated, lives are put on hold, and the waiting time for asylum decisions is often prolonged. Amid these difficulties, Eurorelief’s Resident Volunteer Program offers a transformative opportunity for camp residents to reclaim their dignity, find purpose, and build community by actively contributing to the camp’s operations.
A team of 27 volunteers—refugees themselves, displaced by conflict—serve as leaders, translators, mentors, and community builders, seeking to enrich the services provided to all asylum seekers. Representing diverse ethnic and linguistic backgrounds, including Afghan, Syrian, and Somali communities, the volunteers ensure that the services provided are culturally relevant and respectful.
Each volunteer receives grocery vouchers, phone credit, hygiene items, and clothing as part of their compensation for their services. Through this opportunity, the volunteers begin Providing Practical Aid to War-Torn Ukraine to rebuild their lives and reclaim their God-given dignity while awaiting asylum. This program also supports the local Greek economy, as much of the aid is sourced from local businesses.
Your support ensures the continuation of these resources, enabling volunteers to care for their families while giving back to their refugee community.
Will you support Eurorelief’s Resident Volunteer Program to help asylum seekers rediscover purpose, foster community, and contribute to the well-being of their peers?
